Person with Measles Traveled Through Newark Liberty Airport

A traveller infected with measles spent several hours at Newark Airport on May 12, potentially exposing people to the highly dangerous virus. State health officials warn that anyone who was in Terminal B between 12:30-4pm on May 12 may be have been exposed. People infected may start to show symptoms as late as June 2 because the virus can take up to 3 weeks to replicate in the body. According to the NJ Department of Health, the infected individual does not live in the state, and no other NJ cases are known at this time. New Jersey has confirmed three previous cases in 2025.

Measles outbreaks continues across the US as the CDC 23 additional infections were confirmed last week. The new cases bring the total to 1,024 confirmed infections across 30 states. The vast majority of cases (96%) have been individuals who are not vaccinated or do not know their vaccination status.
