Flu Activity Remains Elevated in Most US States
Most states are reporting moderate to very high flu activity. Specifically, 9 states have moderate flu levels and 26 states have high or very high levels. Americans continue to seek outpatient care for flu-like illness at very high rates, a key indication that the virus is circulating widely. Additionally, 5 more kids died from their infections last week, bringing the total number of pediatric deaths to 71 this season.
2025 Was a Historically Bad Year for Measles. 2026 is on Pace to Be Even Worse
Last year the United States recorded the most measles cases since 1992. With dozens of new measles infections confirmed this week, the US has logged 1,030 cases in the new year, putting the country on pace for an even worse 2026. The US didn’t surpass 1,000 cases last year until the end of April. Falling vaccination rates and a lackluster national response to the disease have helped to fuel the virus’s resurgence. According to the CDC, just 10 states now have kindergarten-age measles vaccination rates of 95% or more, the threshold necessary to achieve “herd immunity” or community immunity.
