Measles Outbreak in Texas Grows to 58 Cases
The Texas measles outbreak has grown to 58 infections and 13 hospitalizations, the Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) confirmed. The cases are concentrated in a rural area of west-central Texas with a particularly low vaccination rate. Gaines County has the most cases with 45. All but 4 of the people infected were not vaccinated against measles.

Flu Surging in New Jersey Amid Historically Bad Flu Season
As flu continues to surge across the country, New Jersey is getting hit especially hard. The state is seeing “very high” levels of flu, which is the CDC’s highest category for flu activity. Reflecting national trends, hospitalizations and deaths continue to rise in New Jersey. This is the most severe flu season in 15 years, health officials say. Nationwide, the CDC has confirmed 29 million flu cases to date, as well as 370,000 hospitalizations and 16,000 deaths.
“We’re still seeing significant influenza presenting to our emergency rooms, patients getting hospitalized,” Dr. Martin Topiel told CBS News. “Someone may seem like getting better but they still may be infectious and contagious to others”.
