Measles Outbreaks Continue to Grow, as US Confirms 2,065 Cases This Year
Measles outbreaks continue to expand, as the CDC confirmed 53 new cases this week. Outbreaks in Utah, Arizona and South Carolina account for the bulk of these additional cases. The US will likely lose its measles elimination status in January 2026, which would mark 12 consecutive months of sustained measles spread.
Avian Flu Hits Farms in 5 More States
The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) confirmed outbreaks of Avian flu (also known as bird flu) on poultry farms across 5 states. This new round of outbreaks has sickened impacted over 128,000 birds. In addition, the virus is the suspected cause of wild bird deaths in Florida and Iowa. These continued farm outbreaks, which started in February of 2022, threaten the food supply and raise the risk of a future Avian Flu pandemic.
