Flu Activity Surges Ahead of Holidays

As Americans prepare to gather for the holidays, flu activity is rising quickly across the country. In the latest update from the CDC, 13 states, including New Jersey, reported high or very high levels of flu-like illness, which is twice the number of states as the week prior. Emergency department visits and laboratory-confirmed positives for flu continued to rise. With Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa right around the corner, these wonderful celebrations are also a chance for infections to spread further. As New Year’s approaches, it’s not too late to get vaccinated to protect yourself and your loved ones.

First Human Case of Avian Flu Confirmed in Iowa

Iowa’s first human case of Avian Flu (bird flu) has been confirmed by the state’s department of health. The patient, who received treatment and is recovering, is the 65th confirmed case in the US. As with most of the human bird infections, the person was infected during their job at a poultry farm.
