Children with Long COVID at Higher Risk for Missed School Days, Academic Problems

Schoolchildren with long COVID are 2.5 times more likely to have high absentee rates than students not diagnosed with the disease, a study from the CDC found. Additionally, the paper showed that the kids with long COVID experienced problems with memory, concentration and learning at twice the rate as peers without long COVID. The group with long COVID also tended to have more trouble adapting to deviations in routines.

Avian Flu Ravages Poultry Flocks Across the US

The US Department of Agriculture has confirmed 67 avian flu outbreaks in the last month alone (18 commercial flocks and 49 backyard flocks), impacting 1.48 million birds. These outbreaks are the latest impact of the Avian Flu animal epidemic that has ravaged US poultry and dairy farms since 2022. In the US, Avian Flu has hit 180 million birds and 1,000 dairy herds across 18 states, and it has infected at least 70 humans – the majority of whom were farmworkers.
