Over 100 People Fall Ill on Celebrity Cruises Ship

More than 100 passengers and crewmembers were sickened by a gastro-intestinal (GI) illness. The Celebrity Eclipse ship was in the midst of an eight-day Caribbean trip which ended on December 28. n response to the outbreak, the ship enacted more stringent safety protocols, in an effort to contain the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) confirmed 22 outbreaks involving GI illness that were large enough to require the public to be notified.

Dog Treats Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

Two dog treat products have been recalled after federal safety inspections revealed the presence of salmonella bacteria. Salmonella can cause dogs and humans to get sick. Animals can fall ill if they ingest the contaminated food and people can get sick if they touch the treat or any surfaces it contacted. .Consumers Supply Distributing, which distributes the treats, announced the recall on December 24. The affected products are:

  • Country Vet Biscuits – Original Meaty Flavor
  • Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits – Meaty Flavor with Chicken

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) advises pet owners to check their homes for the treats and return them for a full refund.
