The measles outbreak centered in Texas continues to expand. The number of confirmed cases in West Texas climbed to 223, state health officials announced. The vast majority of cases are people who have not received the MMR vaccine or who are unsure of their vaccination status. Most of the individuals infected are children or teenagers.
The related outbreak in New Mexico has grown to 33 infections, up from 10 in a previous update. Today, health authorities in Oklahoma announced two people likely have measles infections connected to the Texas-New Mexico outbreak. The individuals had contact “associated with the Texas and New Mexico outbreak” and have symptoms typical of measles. According to state health officials, the infected individuals isolated themselves and did not and avoided going out in public once their symptoms began.
