Pennsylvania Confirms First Measles Case of 2025

Viral disease. Measles rash on the body of the child. Allergy.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has confirmed the state’s first measles cases of 2025. The infected child, who was not vaccinated against measles, traveled from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City to Philadelphia on the evening of Tuesday, 2/25. They arrived at the Pho Ha Saigon restaurant (757 Adams Ave., Philadelphia) on a China Airlines Airport Shuttle Bus departing from Terminal 4. They were in Philadelphia from 9:30 p.m. Tuesday until 3:15 a.m. Wednesday. The child visited True North Pediatrics Associates of Plymouth (3031 Walton Rd., #C101, in Plymouth Meeting on Wednesday, followed by the CHOP King of Prussia Campus Emergency Department later that day. People present at any of these locations at the same time, or within 2 hours of the child leaving, may have been exposed to the virus. Measles is a highly contagious virus that can survive in the air and surfaces for 2 hours.

Health workers are conducting contact tracing to determine who else may have been exposed to the virus. The contact tracers are notifying anyone identified as being potentially exposed to the sick child. People who are fully vaccinated against measles are well protected, but those who are not vaccinated face a 90% chance of getting sick if exposed to the virus.
