New Measles Cases Confirmed in South Carolina and Colorado

South Carolina’s measles outbreak continues to expand as health officials reported 8 new cases. The additional infections raise the state’s total to 87 cases this year. Among the patients, 77 are not vaccinated and three are only partially vaccinated. Vaccination status was not known for the remaining two patients.

In Colorado, health authorities confirmed a measles infection in Montezuma County. The child was not vaccinated and had no known exposures to other confirmed cases in Colorado or outside the state. n Colorado and has not traveled outside the state. “The lack of a clear source of infection suggests that unidentified measles cases may be occurring in or traveling through the Cortez area,” wrote the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
