More Avian Flu Outbreaks Hit Poultry Farms Across the US

Avian flu, also known as bird flu, continues to ravage poultry farms across the country. The latest update from USDA confirmed outbreaks in three states: California, Missouri and Oregon.

Missouri has suffered the worst impacts of the three states in recent weeks. In the last 30 days, bird flu taken the lives of 4.3 million birds in Missouri. The affected farms include an egg layer farm with 1.15 million birds, 4 turkey farms, and a broiler chicken farm.

In California, health officials confirmed outbreaks in a commercial turkey facility housing 22,200 birds. In Oregon, the virus sickened a backyard flock of 8 birds. Additionally, USDA confirmed another outbreak in a California dairy cow herd. This was the country’s 957th bird flu outbreak in dairy cows.
