The measles outbreak in Utah and South Carolina continue to grow, as both states reported new cases reported last weekend.
Utah confirmed four new infections, raising the state’s total this year to 64 cases Sixty one of the patients were unvaccinated. The Utah cases are part of a multi-state outbreak involving bordering Arizona. With 142 combined cases, it is the second largest outbreak to hit the US this year.
South Carolina, the other state mired in a large measles outbreak saw four more infections, increasing their total cases count to 37 for the year. The vast majority of the cases (34 out of 37) have happened in South Carolina’s upstate region, driven two elementary schools with low vaccination rates.
The US remains at high risk of losing its measles elimination status.
