Measles Outbreak Continues to Grow in Texas and Beyond

Measles viral disease, human skin covered with measles rash, vaccination concept

The measles outbreak centered in Western Texas has expanded to 259 cases, 36 of which have been confirmed in the last 6 days. Virtually all (more than 99%) of the infected individuals are people who are either not vaccinated against the virus or do not know their vaccination status. At least 34 people have been hospitalized to date in the outbreak. Most cases have been minors between 0-17 years old. Two deaths have been linked to this outbreak, the first US deaths from measles in a decade.

According to the CDC’s latest update, the US has confirmed 301 cases in the following 14 states in 2025: New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Alaska, California, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Texas, Vermont and Washington. These cases add up to more than the total for all of 2024.
