Measles cases were reported in Washington state’s Whatcom County – the county’s first infection of 2025. The two individuals infected are family members living in the same home. One of these patients may have exposed others while visiting an urgent care center on June 18.

In Michigan, Grand Traverse County announced a measles outbreak upon confirming a third case yesterday. All three of the infections are connected, the health department said. Health authorities reported the initial case on June 18, which was the first confirmed infection in the county since 2019.

In Texas, the epicenter of the country’s largest outbreak, the rate of new infections continues to decrease. Zero new infections were reported today by health authorities in Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma. Kansas, which has also seen cases connected to the Texas outbreak, confirmed ine additional case. Texas itself has a total of 750 so far for the year. Just two West Texas counties, Gaines and Lamar are currently seeing active spread of the disease. The downward trend in cases comes as welcome news to physicians and public health workers who have been working tirelessly trying to contain the outbreak since January.

Despite the welcome respite in Texas, the US is still having historically bad year for measles. The US is rapidly approaching the 1,274 cases it recorded in all of 2019, which was the high water marks since measles was declared eliminated from the US in the year 2000.
