Connecticut confirmed its first measles infection in over four years. The infected individual is a boy younger than 10 years old who is not vaccinated against the virus, state health officials said. Connecticut becomes the 43rd state to confirm a case in 2025, a historically bad year for measles outbreaks.
The United States is on the brink of losing its measles elimination status due to the ongoing spread of the virus for nearly 12 months. A country loses its measles elimination designation if the virus spreads continuously for one full year. Canada lost its measles elimination status in November. Mexico has also experienced a high number of measles illnesses.
