CDC Approves Vaccines for RSV and Meningococcal Disease

The CDC approved two vaccines based on the recommendation of the agency’s independent committee of experts.

The CDC approved the vaccine against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) for adults age 50-59 who face an elevated risk of severe disease. In addition, the CDC also approved the use of GSK’s meningococcal vaccine in healthy individuals 16–23 years old and people age 10 years and older who have a greater risk of severe illness. Meningococcal bacteria can cause meningitis and bloodstream infections, which can be serious and even fatal.
