Tests on mosquitos have detected West Nile Virus in New Jersey and New York City. The virus is carried by the insects and transmitted to humans when they bite. West Nile virus has been confirmed in mosquitos in New Jersey and in all five boroughs of NYC. Infected people can experience fever, body aches, headaches, diarrhea, vomiting and neurological problems. Approximately 1 out of 150 people with the virus die. No treatments or vaccines are available, so preventative measures against getting bitten such as applying bug spray are the only protection against this disease.
